E-Platforms – the new “must have”.

Standard Bank has introduced SimplyBlu this month, a digital solution that aims to help SMEs set up and manage an online store and accept card payments securely. SAPO has also announced that it plans to launch its e-platform this year – obviously e-platforms are all the rage in 2019. The International Trade Centre (a joint venture between the WTO and UNCTAD) has issued a tender for a study of e-platforms (what they rather grandly call “multi-sided digital platforms”) in Africa. We hope to be able to report further on that initiative in the future. According to preliminary research carried out for the ITC there are over 300 e-platforms operating in Africa, most are national but some are regional or continental (the latter being particularly BtoB).
