Watch this Space – Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) is Becoming Big
Over the last months, more investment has been poured into BNPL companies and ventures, joining the leaders Sweden’s Klarna, Australia’s Afterpay, and U.S.-based Affirm. Last month PayPal spent $2.7 bn for Japan’s Paidy, and in early August, Square announced plans to acquire Afterpay in a $29 bn deal. Visa recently pointed out that more and more issuers, acquirers, and fintechs are using its technology to offer BNPL options to their customers. As a result, it is looking at a deal with Klarna, while Mastercard has rolled out its own BNPL version, Mastercard Installments.
But note, it seems that Google is removing loan schemes that it deems as predatory from its web-search services.
