ICT Engineering online on-demand
Developer outsourcing company Andela has pivoted its operational model. Initially in response to COVID Andela laid off 135 people in May and shut down offices globally. It has now adopted fully remote operations and has opened its services to interested developers from across Africa, rather than just from the 6 countries it previously operated in (Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana and Egypt). The remote, pan-African model essentially sees Andela morph into an online marketplace for African developers who can apply, get accepted and then be matched with clients, often American companies in need of engineering talent. Andela accepts applications from senior developers across the continent adept in the most in-demand web frameworks and programme languages. However, developers will now only be contracted on a per project basis rather than be employed by Andela.
