Promoting Women Entrepreneurs

At a meeting of the World Trade Organisation’s WGs on Trade and Gender, and on Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, it was agreed that the WTO Secretariat and the International Trade Centre will create a compendium of initiatives that promote financial inclusion of women entrepreneurs. The “Compendium of Financial Inclusion Initiatives” will identify financial measures initiated by governments, national and regional development banks, as well as international organizations, to support small-scale businesses run by women entrepreneurs. The objective is to provide this compendium as a policy tool and a model when developing financial inclusion schemes for female entrepreneurs. EFA and the UNECA will hold a panel session at UNCTAD’s eWeek in Dec on empowering women in Africa through ecommerce. Panellists include UNECA, ECOWAS’s 50 Million Women initiative, the University of Cairo, empowering rural women in Egypt, PayU and a Kenyan e-platform for women. Join us on Thurs 7 Dec (see above for details)!
