Opportunities for Women-owned Businesses
The leading independent pan-African banking group, Ecobank Group has launched a programme called Ellevate. This is targetted at women-owned and women-focused businesses operating across multiple markets in Africa. Ellevate aims to encourage women to grow their businesses through customised financial solutions with added value.
New ISPA Scholarship
South Africa’s Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) invites applications for its newly unveiled “ISPA Inspires” bursary programme for candidates who want to pursue a career in the information technology sector. The bursary assists by covering IT and computer courses relevant to the ISP sector at recognised TVET or higher education institutions. Apply here – https://lnkd.in/de4p4V7
Google has launched an accelerator programme, MENA
The programme is designed for Seed to Series A tech startups located in the Middle East and North Africa region. The 3-month accelerator programme will take place virtually and applications will be accepted from startup companies from: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Palestine, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. AfCFTA Opportunities for Startups
The AfCFTA Vision Challenge, part of the broader Vision Initiative to boost access to funding and technological capacity for startups, SMEs, innovators and entrepreneurs across the continent, has been launched alongside the Sankoree Institute of AfroChampions, and is open to startups working in any one of 8 critical issue areas, including education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, good governance, manufacturing and environment. Selected startups will be assisted in navigating the complex process of engaging with big development finance institutions, with the end goal being to help these startups secure investment from a major pan-African development finance institution.
New VC Support for SA Startups
The Portugal Gateway Growth Fund aims to provide resources that will benefit SA businesses and entrepreneurs and drive businesses into the Eurozone. The Fund is matched by the European Investment Firm Directive (IFD) which reduces the risk for investors seeking to invest in SA businesses. The IFD provides insurance for challenges that individual investors may face. www.portugalgateway.com

As part of Data-Driven Transformation, Johnson & Johnson is looking for new ways that the Marketing Sciences can help improve the marketing effectiveness of their NICORETTE® products designed to support you when you give up smoking. Using a combination of Data Science as well as Behavioral Science, teams will address the challenge with Phase I taking place on Jan. 29 – Feb. 3, 2021. Each team would have up to 4 people – Call for Teams.
Intellectual Property and TRIPS
On 27 November the World Trade Organisation launched the second edition of “A Handbook on the WTO TRIPS Agreement”, which describes the historical and legal background to the Agreement on Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), its role in the organization and its institutional framework. World Trade Report 2020 explores increasing use of policies to foster digital innovation
The 2020 edition of the WTO’s World Trade Report explores the use of government policies in the digital era and underlines the importance of stronger international collaboration for better global outcomes. The rapport explores the examples of 115 countries which have put in place policies aimed at supporting the transition towards a digital economy. Read the Report
