World Bank’s new free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) titled Trading for Development in the Age of Global Value Chains (GVCs).
Based on WBG’s 2020 World Development Report, this 5-week course will allow participants to deepen their knowledge of GVCs and trade issues. MOOC offers participants a chance to learn from World Bank economists and will also include interactive live sessions. Facebook’s Accelerator Programme open to African Startups
African ecommerce startups have been invited to apply for a new Facebook-run accelerator that will offer them access to mentorship and training as well as the company’s technologies and networks. Facebook Accelerator: Commerce is a 12-week non-equity programme supporting innovative commerce startups who renew shopping experiences for buyers and sellers.
Lacuna Fund Available for Researchers
This provides data scientists, researchers, and social entrepreneurs with the resources they need either to produce new labeled datasets to address an underserved population or problem, augment existing datasets to be more representative, or update old datasets to be more sustainable. All datasets produced will be locally developed and owned, and they will be openly accessible to the international community while adhering to best practices regarding ethics and privacy – https://lacunafund.org/apply/
Commonwealth Youth Programme Applications for 2021
Young leaders from across the 54 Commonwealth countries can enter five regional categories: Africa; Asia; Caribbean; Canada (and Europe); and the Pacific. The finalists and regional winners will be announced during Commonwealth Week in March 2021. There will be an overall winner who will receive the title of Commonwealth Young Person of the Year 2021 and a total cash prize of £5,000. This year’s award includes special recognition for young people who have made outstanding efforts to tackle development challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
