Increases in Coverage Reported
The Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has reported that the country has achieved 40.18% broadband penetration and plans to reach 70% broadband penetration target by 2025. Nigeria has also seen 2.5 million new internet subscribers since April. According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Internet subscriptions in Nigeria have increased to 140.7 million, up by 4.9 million since March. In Uganda mobile data subscribers increased at the end of 2019 from 15.4 million in October to 16.9 million by December. The number of internet users in Tanzania registered a quarterly growth of 4.02% at the end of March this year to 26.8 million, from 25.7 million in Q4 2019. The increase was triggered by the rise in the number of people using smartphone handsets to go online. Internet penetration grew by 46% to 25.7 million. Meanwhile, AIRTEL Tanzania announced a significant drop in its data rates to provide Airtel customers more value and freedom to enjoy the fastest Airtel 4G network across the country.
