A New Deal Turnaround Strategy for SA

EFSA attended the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium of South Africa hosted by President Cyril Ramaphosa:  https://www.gov.za/speeches/address-president-cyril-ramaphosa-sustainable-infrastructure-development-symposium-south The President announced that his government is planning major expenditure on infrastructure, particularly roads, rail and housing (major infrastructural programmes – the so-called New Deal – were successful in the USA to break out of the 1930s Great Depression and are being planned by other countries across the globe in response to the economic collapse brought about by the COVID pandemic).  A breakaway session in the afternoon looked at telecoms infrastructure, but no specific plans were announced, which was disappointing, however, the session attracted interest for a spirited debate on whether ICASA should be folded.
