SUMMARY:Digital Disruption in Africa-Mapping Innovations for the AfCFTA in Post Covid Times
DESCRIPTION:The COVID19 pandemic has highlighted the impact that digital innovations can have in resolving some of the most critical global challenges. Digital solutions have been the lifeblood that has helped many businesses and economies stay afloat in these times of crisis. In Africa the use of digital solutions is nothing new\, indeed the continent is recognised for its utilisation of mobile-based payment systems including M-Pesa and many other innovations. Digital solutions have also been hailed by the African Union (AU) and other international bodies as critical for Africa’s development and growth. \nAs the world pivots into the digital economy\, trends are showing that digital innovations will continue to play a key catalytic role in supporting not only post-pandemic recovery but also sustainable growth and prosperity benefiting Africa and helping to support the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Across many economies in Africa\, digitisation has been used to leapfrog over traditional banking and landline telecoms infrastructure\, helping businesses to innovate and scale up operations. \n  \nSign up here

DESCRIPTION:It gives the Ecommerce Forum of SA great pleasure in partnering with Trade Conferences International (TCI) in supporting this event on cross border ecommerce on 16 & 17 November 2022. \nEcommerce has been used for years to sell quality South African goods abroad. Business to consumer sales to the USA or Europe are a profitable niche market which grew during the COVID lockdown. So did business to business ecommerce. Now the African Free Trade Area is reducing tariffs and encouraging ecommerce merchants to look at new opportunities to trade cross-frontiers. South African ecommerce merchants need to be aware of these new opportunities to sell business to business and business to consumer within the African continent. \nThere have also been some innovative developments in cross-border payments which will be of great assistance to e-merchants – the TCIB system in the SADC countries created by BankServ\, and the Afreximbank’s PAPSS\, for example. \nIn the near future\, South African business-to-business and business-to-consumer e-merchants will benefit from economies of scale in the new continental marketplace. \nThis is the first event specifically designed to assist and encourage e-merchants and ecommerce service providers to look at cross border sales to the traditional markets\, and also to the African continent as their next frontier.
